Mobile Tablet Administrative System

This mobile application software was developed for an Android tablet. The application integrates to a backend data repository to pull real-time information to be presented on the tablet.

The system is an SOA integration which allows the mobile tablet to communicate with a business logic layer and a data model. The SOA business logic layer can be reused by other components of the system keeping all your mobile and desktop computer systems in sync.

A mobile application like this is one of a kind and may possibly change the game for enterprise mobile applications and businesses. This mobile application software is an integrated set of software components with a website application control panel allowing an administrator to manage content on a specified Android mobile tablet in real-time. As seen in Figure 1, we built an SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) that sits “behind” the mobile application.

A Service Oriented Architecture is a set of components that contain the business functionality for the system. The mobile application communicates with the SOA, which in-turn communicates with the data layer for the organization to process the mobile application business request. The SOA layer is designed to be reusable so if the client decided to introduce a different type of mobile tablet in a later phase, they can do so and integrate with the existing SOA layer.

iPad Sales App

This iPad software sales application is in the early research and development stages. This application will be a proprietary iPad application for use only within the organization for which it is being developed.

The application features high-resolution images of products being sold and instant touch sales and order processing. The application works in tandem with a SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) that is also being developed by eSavV engineers. The SOA will connect to the client’s existing legacy system to allow seamless integration with the new iPad application.

Imagine a sales representative for your company carrying a case with all your products on them, driving from retail store to retail store selling your products. Certainly this would be cumbersome, risky, and probably fairly inconvenient if you have larger or expensive products. You are also limited to what you can physically carry and depending on what your business sells this may not be an option at all.

This was the case with a large jewelry manufacturer. The sales reps would travel with large cases of jewelry. Each piece of jewelry had a hand-printed UPC barcode that would need to be scanned with a scanner to make a sale. The process was long, tedious and antiquated.

Imagine now an iPad sales application with your entire inventory in high-resolution images and videos. Imagine this iPad application having a full real-time purchasing system built in with only the swipe of your finger. Also imagine you can track your sales reps using built-in GPS on the iPads and you can communicate with them using instant messaging and FaceTime video. This is the project we are defining here. Still in the R&D stages, this system is sure to boost sales and create an improvement in overall business process efficiency.

College Book Scanner & Sales App

This iPhone mobile application is geared towards college students looking to save a few bucks and make a few. This application allows college students to post books for sale and buy books. What makes this mobile app unique is the ISBN scanning ability and the Web 2.0 style of sales.

A college student can create a profile and enters his or her school, location, name and contact information. The student can then be contacted by other students in the same school or local vicinity looking for a course textbook for sale. The buyer contacts the seller anonymously and the transaction is managed by the students themselves. A student can scan an ISBN number and the app returns a list of books for sale within that school or proximity that match that ISBN.

Tips & Advice

MOBILE & SOA

If you are looking to integrate your business systems with a mobile platform, you must consider SOA. Service Oriented Architecture is a layer of business functionality that allows your existing business data to communicate with your mobile platform.

IPHONE OR ANDROID

These platforms are the market leaders. So how do you make a decision? There are different demographics using each platform and it is important to know the delta between these groups of consumers. We are here to help make your decision easier by using industry statistics.

ASO

App Search Optimization considers how users will find your mobile app in a vast mobile market. It considers techniques for keywords, app description, app icons, screenshots, app ratings, the number of downloads and more. All of these items are critical to helping your app be found and downloaded.

MOBILE APPS VERSUS MOBILE WEB

There is some confusion between these two terms but they are quite different. A mobile app is a native application that is designed to run on a specific platform such as iPhone or Android. A mobile website is a website that is designed to display in a browser on a mobile device.
